In brief...
Gerontopole Brussels is an interdisciplinary research network involving a number of VUB faculties and research groups examining factors that hinder Active and Healthy Ageing (AHA). The BUTTERFLY research study investigates biological, medical, psychological, social, functional and environmental predictors of frailty. It focuses on the multidimensional concept of frailty and the assessment of such conditions using data from Belgian Ageing Studies (BAS) and scales for measurement of frailty, such as the International Classification of Function, Disability and Health (ICF). The core objective of this project is to prevent the development of frailty and to optimise AHA in practice. As part of this project, it is planned to install a Healthy Ageing Centre in six communities in Flanders.
