Wenkai Li
Biography
Wenkai Li is a PhD researcher at the Law, Science, Technology and Society Research Group (LSTS) and a member of the Health and Ageing Law Lab (HALL). He started his position in February 2022 under the supervision of Prof. Paul Quinn.
Currently, Wenkai is engaged with the FACILITATE project (FrAmework for ClInicaL trIal participants daTA reutilization for a fully Transparent and Ethical ecosystem) funded by the Innovative Medicine Initiative (IMI) under EU Horizon 2020, focusing on the aspect of legal compliance in developing solutions for the return and secondary use of patients’ health data in clinical trials.
Before joining VUB, Wenkai completed his Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Advanced Studies in Law and Digital Technologies at Leiden University, the Netherlands. He subsequently worked as a research assistant at the Center for Law and Digital Technologies (eLaw) of Leiden Law School in a pilot project Gendering Algorithms, which aims to explore the AI-based gender recognition systems. Prior to coming to Europe, he obtained his Bachelor of Law (LL.B.) in China.
His research interests include GDPR and the use of health data, diversity and inclusiveness in data protection and AI governance, and the Chinese data protection law and digital policies.
