In brief...
The SmartCHANGE project aims to develop long-term risk prediction models for cardiovascular and metabolic diseases in individuals aged 5 to 19. Machine-learning methods will enable accurate risk prediction, while federated learning techniques will ensure data privacy. The project's solution will be tested in relevant healthcare settings.
Our role
VUB-HALL is the project’s legal partner and leader of WP2. In this role, together with Amsterdam UMC, VUB-HALL assesses the project’s impact in terms of Societal, Ethical, Legal and Privacy (SELP) to ensure that the project is legally and ethically sound both now and in the foreseeable future, by establishing a benchmark of regulatory and ethical frameworks and adapt it to the SmartCHANGE context, by developing and implementing ethical procedures for user engagement (participatory design, proof-of-concept study) and by involving all partners in the above-mentioned impact assessment, while continuously monitoring compliance with the relevant norms and regulations.
