DIMITRIS DIMITRIOU
Biography
Dimitris Dimitriou is Business Development and Innovation Manager of the Research Group on Law, Science, Technology and Society (LSTS), at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). In his role, he works closely together with the Health and Ageing Law Lab (HALL) and the Cyber and Data Security Lab (CDSL).
Prior to joining VUB, Dimitris served as director and senior research consultant at AND Consulting Group, providing consultancy and risk management services on ethics, privacy and data protection, and the societal impact of technology, innovation and business development. Previously, he served as director and project manager at Synectika Research and Consultancy, a UK-based company offering ethics consultancy services to public bodies, businesses, and technology developers across Europe.
Dimitris has worked for various non-governmental organisations and research institutions in Greece, Italy and the UK. Highly experienced in collaborative research, Dimitris has worked on international projects on issues including privacy, security and surveillance, ageism and the digital divide, disaster response and crisis management, risk communication, migration and the refugee crisis, informed consent in clinical trials and research with vulnerable populations. For several years, he served as independent ethics advisor on research projects funded within the scope of FP7 and H2020.
Dimitris holds a MSc degree in Health Psychology (City University of London) and a MSc degree in Environmental Psychology (University of Surrey).
