On 28 November 2022, VUB HALL and LSTS visiting scholar Mikel Recuero Linares (researcher at the Chair in Law and the Human Genome Research Group at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU)) will present his research on 'Scientific research with sensitive personal data: European legal responses facing global challenges?'. This Work-in-Progress research focuses on pan-European and international data processing and sharing for scientific research purposes. In particular, it aims to identify the virtues and gaps of the European data protection and governance frameworks regarding the collection, processing, and re-use of genetic data and data concerning health, in order to conclude whether the European legal responses are sufficient to cope with an increasingly globalised scientific context.
The Brussels Privacy Hub (BPH) is organising a Doctoral Seminar series to give the opportunity to Ph.D. candidates working on privacy and data protection topics to present and discuss their work in progress. The aim of the series is to offer Ph.D. students at all research stages a training ground to refine and practice debating their scientific work, and to receive qualified feedback and questions from their peers and privacy and data protection experts. To this aim, each seminar will include a short presentation by the Ph.D. candidate, followed by an open discussion session with the audience. Seminars are also open to external participants. This event will be in hybrid format (both on campus and online). Interested participants wishing to take part online can register by sending an email to ptrigokr@vub.be.
