Alp Berkay Soyfidan

Alp Berkay Soyfidan holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Türkiye and an Advanced Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Intellectual Property and ICT Law from KU Leuven. His master’s thesis, Emotion Recognition in the Workplace and Its Impact on Fundamental Rights, examined the use of affect-recognition systems by employers and the challenges such systems raise for privacy, data protection, non-discrimination and human dignity.

He is currently pursuing a PhD at VUB under the supervision of Professor Paul Quinn. He has more than six years of professional experience as a research and teaching assistant at law faculties in Türkiye, where his work has centred on the interaction between disruptive technologies and fundamental rights.

His principal area of focus is cybersecurity law. He works on the legal and institutional frameworks governing cybersecurity – including national and international regulatory instruments, network and information security obligations, incident response and cross-border cooperation – and on ensuring that cybersecurity measures are designed and applied in a manner consistent with fundamental rights and the rule of law.
